Welcome to an authentic Kerala family's guesthouse
Thaara Gardens Mone's Family Cottage opened its doors to the public in the early 1970's and was freshly renewed in 2000 by it´s German buisness-partner. Mone's family was one of the first families of Kumily to receive regularly international visitors in the 70's. The guesthouse is located between Kumily-Town and Thekkady and 2km to the entrance of Perylar Wildlife Sanctuary, in the Idukki district of Kerala, South India.

The cottage is built on the family land that Mone received from his father who first settled here in 1937. The original and actual family house is a few yards down from the cottage. Black peppers vines and coffee trees cover most of the top of the property. The guesthouse is reachable from the top of a hill that isolates completely the cottage from the city noises and dust of Kumily.

Discover the authentic Kerala living and enjoy the wonderful food prepared just for you by Mone's family. We are in the original village of Kumily. Mone grew up here when the village counted no more than 100 houses 50 years ago. You are welcome to visit us at anytime. Come and decide for yourself. You'll find a room here at a rate that will be within your budget.

We organize tours or help you to find the best guides at the best honorable rates and give you a list of tours that only require the purchase of local bus tickets and free (non guided) walks in the area. We have a spice garden with black pepper, coffee, vanilla, and also fruits trees such as mangoes, lemons, custard apples, bananas and a few others.

All travelers are welcome. For one night, one week, one month or for the whole season. English and Malayalam are spoken in the house. We always welcome new friends, full pensions are available.
