Mugilu meaning clouds in Kannada, is a plantation stay / homestay situated about 15 kms from Sakleshpur (230 kms from Bangalore) and a mere 18 kms from Coorg. Having over 10 acres of plantation with the meadows and plains of the Western Ghats all around, Mugilu has something to offer to everyone. In these serene surroundings, you have ample opportunities for bird and butterfly watching - both endemic and migratory; star gazing & amateur astronomy; trekking; camping or just soaking in the surroundings with your feet up on the balustrade and a book in hand.
Mugilu experiences gusty winds and cool breeze almost all days in the year. Anyone staying at Mugilu will have the chance to witness glorious spring days, a light summer, misty mornings, torrential monsoon and chilly winters.
Mugilu - homestay, is owned, nurtured and managed by us with a little help from the local folk. We decided to exchange our successful career run lifestyle of Bangalore for living a dream amidst nature. Having prior experience as a PR consultant and owning and managing multiple restaurants in Bangalore, we try and provide for a professional, wonderful, warm and hospitable stay at Mugilu.
The plantation and homestay is self sufficient in terms of organic and natural provisions - vegetables, most spices, fruit and dairy products. In a short while, we expect to meet some of our power demands through renewable energy initiatives that are in the pipeline. A key differentiator is that Mugilu encourages holidays with your pets as we are avid animal lovers. Chervo, Keechu and Shunti, our pets complete the Mugilu family.
We have also done our best to give back to the community by adopting a family and providing for their child’s education. We’ve appreciated when our guests have come forward to contribute towards this cause too.

Mugilu has enough to keep every one of its guests enthralled with the tree cover, the birds, the butterflies, valleys, plains, sunset and moonrise, and of course the natural beauty of the region.

Mugilu is the perfect location to have a relaxed and stress free getaway. With no distractions of the concrete jungle, you can just sit back, relax and rejuvenate yourself with ample help from the surroundings and nature. Once you have had your share of relaxation and if you still have the time for it, you could explore the following. Most of our guests however prefer to just chill and recharge.
Off Roading
Being off-road enthusiasts ourselves, we encourage off-roading if you have a 4X4 vehicle as Sakleshpur and the surroundings are apt for this activity.
Birding
Our plantation is home to over 55 species of migratory and resident birds which we have identified over the last few years. The Western Ghats are home to over 500 species of birds.

Coffee tree furnishings, lounge sofas, bar stools and the sound of wind blowing through Casuarina trees add to the tranquil ambience.
