Valley of Birds Homestay is a simple Farm House with modern amenities situated 3500 feet above sea level in the Western Ghats at the foothills of Kemmanagundi, a hill station that was the summer retreat of the former Maharaja of Mysore, HRH Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, about 250 kms from Bangalore.
Nestled in a scenic valley amidst the environs of Mother Nature on a seven acre Areca nut and Coffee plantation (five hundred meters from Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary) Valley of Birds Homestay is the perfect place to unwind and rejuvenate in rural surroundings. Take a long walk in the jungle, visit the famous hills, shrines and water falls of Kemmanagundi or just kick back and enjoy the distance from urbanization.

The Homestay is run by George Bird, whose grandfather Fredrick Daniel Meppen was a pioneer Coffee planter from Europe. He started coffee cultivation on a large scale in Chikmagalur district and is mentioned in the planters’ chronicle, the holy grail of Coffee cultivation.
The Homestay is surrounded by a wide variety of flowering plants and fruit trees that were planted to attract and encourage birds to feed and rest undisturbed in peace and tranquility. It offers nature lovers and bird watchers a chance to enjoy them in their naturel environment to which they flock in large numbers during the fruiting season.

• Bird watching in Bhadra wildlife sanctuary which is 500 meters from the homestay. Bhadra sanctuary has more than 300 species of birds, some endemic to this region and some migratory. Some of the species found in Bhadra are the grey jungle fowl, red spur fowl, painted bush quail, emerald dove, southern green imperial pigeon, great black woodpecker, Malabar parakeet and hill myna, also the ruby-throated bulbul, Malabar trogon, Malabar whistling thrush, four species of hornbill and racquet-tailed drongo

Bangalore-Tumkur-Tiptur-Arsikere-Kadur-Birur. At Birur five roads circle, turn left and drive 13 kms to reach Lingadahalli. Immediately after the forest check post, turn right at the Lingadahalli gas station towards Kemmanagundi.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM LINGADAHALLI TO VALLEY OF BIRDS
HOMESTAY
From the Lingadahalli gas station, drive 8.5 kms towards Kemmanagundi to reach Ballavara Post. At the ‘T’ junction in Ballavara, turn right and drive 4 kms towards Colony. At Colony, continue on straight past a small bridge and after about 400 feet, the road branches into two. Take the one on your right, and in 2 kms you are in Jayapura.
On reaching Jaipura, continue on straight for a kilometer, you pass another small bridge, after this you pass Thanigebailu school. 200 feet past the school is a mud road with the forest office on your left and an old building with a few shops on your right. Follow the mud road between these buildings for a kilometer. On your right you will see a big tall tree besides which is the Homestay.
