It all began a few years ago with us planning to spend our new years at a homestay in Coorg. We were a bit apprehensive about the fact that we were going to be completely cut off from the outside world for a good three days. No electricity, no cellular network signal, no major roads and mainly no people! But at the end of it, we all had had the best time of our life. We realised what we had been missing by visiting resorts & hotels previously. We began to appreciate the host’s warmth over a steward’s hospitality, the freedom & flexibility of a homestay over a hotel’s ‘Do’s & Dont’s’. More importantly, the fresh personally crafted homestay over a corporate feel of the resort.
It shouldn’t be a surprise now if we said, we mostly holidayed at homestays for the next few years in the western ghats and coastal regions, thoroughly relishing it.
Needless to say, the more niche a place, the harder it is to find. The best homestays were always nestled deep into the mountains, tastefully crafted by their proud owners. For the hosts, Internet was the major medium to draw their guests, so they would try and get a website built, which wasn’t their cup of tea mostly. Even if they did, it was just a needle in the ginormous Internet stack! So every few months we’d be trying to squeeze that elusive homestay in almost mythical locations out of google. This was a tiring job. Although thoroughly worth it!
Then out of nowhere it just occurred to us, that we could actually compile a list of homestays we personally had been-to & others recommended by our friends, and share it up online !
Its hard to imagine even on the day of our site’s launch, how sophisticated that seed of an idea has grown. We look forward to a exciting journey from here!! We need all your support!
Thank you,
